Brief Biography & CV
Mal Fletcher is an author, business and media consultant, media commentator, global conference speaker and broadcaster based in London.
Mal is the founder and director of Next Wave International, a London-based communications group which is training businesses, community organizations and charities across Europe and the world to engage the future and move society forward in a positive direction.
Mal hosts the annual Strategic Leadership Consultation, which he founded in 1998. This think-tank summit for leaders of major European community groups and faith-based charities aims to facilitate a brighter future for Europe through social renewal.
He also founded the European Youth Events network, which during the late 1990s sponsored ongoing alcohol-free and drug-free concerts for young people in eight major European centres.
Mal was the founding National Director of Youth Alive Australia, a large, nationwide organisation teaching positive values to young people and running drug and alcohol-free events.
During the 1980s and early 90s, when Australia had one of the highest teenage suicide rates in the world, this innovative, life-affirming movement grew from a few thousand in Melbourne to an estimated 60,000 young people across the nation in just ten years. Since that time, the movement has grown even further, and the model has inspired similar movements in Europe and South-East Asia.
Mal's award-winning TV magazine-documentary programme, 'EDGES with Mal Fletcher', is now available in many nations, on cable and terrestrial networks. It has aired on major outlets including the Nine Network and Seven Network (Australia), FamilyNet (USA), SABC1 (South Africa) and TVDenmark.
EDGES is a magazine documentary programme looking at major social issues of today and tomorrow. To date, more than 60 half-hour programmes have been made since 1997. Series 7, a further 10 programmes, is due for release in late 2008.
Mal is the author of ten books on cultural and generational change, future trends, leadership and spirituality, some of which have been translated into five languages. His many articles feature regularly in publications in a number of countries. The Next Wave International websites provide resources on leadership, media, culture and spirituality, and attract thousands of visitors from around the world every month.
A former architecture student, then songwriter/musician, Mal applies his natural creativity in everything he does.
Mal has been married to Davina for more than 27 years. They lived in Copenhagen, Denmark for nine years and now live just outside London. They have three great children, all now adults, Deanna, Grant and Jade.
